Avery Lim
Designer & Writer
Designer. Ritual-tech enthusiast. Keeps a moon calendar in Notion.
Avery is a designer based in Singapore who got curious about manifestation through interface work — what makes a daily ritual stick, what makes it feel meaningful, where the two overlap. They write here on the soft tech of personal practice: gentle reminders, audio guidance, and how the AYA Method gets the loop right. Design taught them to see every habit as a loop with parts — cue, action, reward — and to notice that most wellness products over-build the first part and under-build the last. Their essays take that lens to the practices themselves: why a ritual with a fixed time outlives one with an alarm, why audio survives busy seasons that break visual practices, why the moon calendar in their Notion is genuinely load-bearing and not aesthetic, a distinction they are prepared to defend. They test everything on themselves first, in public, with screenshots — the reminder systems that decayed into noise, the tracking that became its own chore, the setup that finally held because it asked for almost nothing. What the AYA Method gets right, in their reading, is the reward placement: the listening is the pleasant part, so the loop pays the user instead of billing them. Their recurring theme is kindness as a design spec — the practice that respects your attention is the one still running in six months.
